Humanoid robots Figure will begin working at the BMW plant in South Carolina

BMW and Figure have entered into a cooperation agreement under which humanoid robots will begin working at the automaker's plant in South Carolina, reports techcult.ru.

Figure robots are highly flexible and mobile, making them ideal for demanding tasks in manufacturing. At the BMW plant they will be used in the body shop for sheet metal work and in the internal logistics department.

This is the first time humanoid robots have been commercially used in the automotive industry. BMW has extensive experience with industrial robots, so integrating Figure robots into existing processes will be relatively simple.

At first, a small batch of robots will be used at the plant, but as experience is gained, their number will increase.

Figure CEO Brett Adcock believes introducing humanoid robots into production will be a challenge. Robots need to be as flexible and mobile as human workers. Robotization of the industry will continue, despite possible mistakes and disappointments.
