In Ashgabat an exhibition dedicated to the Turkmen national embroidery “Keshde” has opened

Today, at the State Museum of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan an opening of the exhibition dedicated to the national embroidery “Keshde” was held.

The national cultural heritage of the Turkmen folk is famous far beyond the country. The art of Turkmen embroidery is distinguished by jewelry and fineness of execution and is considered a unique feature of the national women's needlework. The harmonious combination of colors and authentic ornaments also distinguish Turkmen national embroidery from others, give it artistic value.

With the aim of further popularization of the national heritage within the exhibition framework, the meeting with the embroideresses, famous for their highly artistic works was also held.

As per the chief of the department of museum Durdymyryt Atdaev, the foundation of the exhibition are the women’s head wrappers, decorated with “gochak”, “para”, “tegbent”, “gulaydy” patterns, others with patterns “barmak”, “sinnirme”, “channa”.

If red represents youth, then green capes symbolize maturity and wisdom. Yellow women's capes are worn by middleaged women, white ones are worn by the elderly.

The national color to the exhibition is also given by woolen coats with “erikgul, “almagul”, “tegbent” patterns, made by rolling technique. Children’s clothes are decorated with embroidery with “daragt, “toynuk”, “okgozi” patterns.

We remind that in July of last year Turkmenistan and Iran nominated the Turkmen embroidery art to the UNESCO List of immaterial patrimony.
