In honour of Berdymukhammedov’s birthday businessmen allowed to partially convert foreign currency

Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that entrepreneurs, who are members of Turkmenistan’s Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, have been allowed to convert 3% of the amounts in their accounts into dollars.

According to one of the sources the restrictions were eased in connection with the forthcoming President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov’s birthday, which is celebrated on 29 June.

Following this initiative the manufacturing of Coca-Cola drinks was resumed after the company had curtailed its operations due to difficulty with foreign currency conversion and importing drinks ingredients into Turkmenistan.

In connection with the deficit, which emerged in the market, the price for a 1 liter bottle has increased to 10 manats.

Now the price for “Cola” dropped down from 10 to 3,5 manats per liter. This resulted in the turmoil among residents and the queues formed in front of the stores. The sale has been restricted to two 1 liter bottles per person.
