India has become the most populous country in the world

India has overtaken China in population to become the world's most populous country, according to a new report from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). India's population is estimated at 1.442 billion, while China has a population of 1.425 billion. MIR 24 reports this.

About a quarter of India's population (24%) are children under 14 years of age. The share of people aged 15 to 64 years is 68%, and people over 65 years old 7%. Life expectancy for men in India is 71 years and for women 74 years.

India's population is projected to continue growing and could double to 2.8 billion by 2101, reports India TV News.
