Indian authorities want to change the name of the country to “Bharat”

The official name of India in English may change to “Bharat” - this is how India is called in Hindi, the second state language, along with English, according to the “MIR 24” portal.

The question of renaming India may be submitted to a special session of Parliament in just a few days.

The name of the country “Bharat” is much more common in India, although at the official level the familiar throughout the world “India” is used.For the renaming to take place, a simple majority is needed in both houses of parliament.

If the draft is adopted, changes will also have to be made in a number of articles of the English version of the republic's Constitution.
