International Chess Tournament for Children Kicks Off in Ashgabat

Today, an international chess tournament for children aged 8, 10, and 12 has officially started in Ashgabat.The event is being held at the Specialized Chess and Checkers School located near the Olympic Village complex.

Following the opening ceremony, rapid chess competitions will take place throughout the day, with blitz games scheduled over the next three days.The tournament brings together nearly 200 young players from 11 countries, including Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, India, Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the host country, Turkmenistan.

Over 80 young chess players are expected to represent Turkmenistan.The award ceremony will be held on June 18.Turkmen participants are well-prepared for the tournament.Earlier this year, young Turkmen chess players achieved notable results in international competitions.

In April, Anna Charyyeva won a bronze medal in the under-8 girls’ category at the World Rapid and Blitz Championship in Greece.That same month, at the West Asian Championship in Tajikistan, Charyhekim Charyyev (U8), Maksat Avlyakulyyev, Myrat Merdanov, and Didar Hupbyyev (U10) all secured bronze medals.
