International Conference Participants Unveil Joint Projects

In the afternoon, the International Conference entitled Turkmenistan and International Organizations: Cooperation for Peace and Development’ continued at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.Notably, the conference is the first landmark event of the year celebrating the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality.

Among those in attendance were representatives of international organizations: the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), International Organization for Migration (IOM), World Health Organization (WHO), European Union, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan, senior officials and specialists from some ministries and agencies of the country, public organizations, and the mass media.

The conference provided a common meeting ground making it possible to comprehensively analyze the experience of collaboration between Turkmenistan and the international organizations, and to unveil new joint projects.

The heads of the international organizations, representatives of the Funds as well as the other participants expressed their gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for his contribution to promoting closer fruitful partnership, and constructive initiatives designed to tackle key issues on the global agenda.

The attendees emphasized a high level of bilateral and multilateral collaboration with great potential to boost it.The UN Office in Ashgabat is today cooperating with government agencies, educational institutions, public organizations and the mass media.

Recognizing the importance of the work done, speakers noted positive results of the parties’ joint efforts aimed at realizing the 2030 Global Agenda for Sustainable Development, creating and implementing mechanisms for economic diversification in the country, ensuring regional and global energy security and environmental safety, building a sustainable transport system, protecting human rights as well as at combating terrorism, trafficking in arms, drugs and humans.

Before bringing the forum to a close, the participants made an appeal to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, demonstrating their mutual commitment to constructive cooperation.
