Iran's Foreign Minister Zarif to Visit Turkmenistan

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will pay an official visit to four Central Asian countries, including Turkmenistan, next week to hold talks on strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation.

In a post on his Twitter account on Friday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said Javad Zarif will travel to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan on April 5-8.

“Enhancing ties with Central Asia, a region of civilizational, historical & cultural commonalities, has always been among Iran's top priorities,” Khatibzadeh noted in the post.

In an interview with the Iranian news agency ISNA in mid-February, the Head of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Hassan Montazer Torbati said the country is ready for natural gas trade with Turkmenistan.

The Minister of Energy of Iran Reza Ardakanian had announced the resumption of negotiations with Turkmenistan to increase imports of electricity.
