Iranian groceries re-appear on the counters of Ashgabat stores

The Iranian groceries are again available in the shopping mall “Milli-market” in Ashgabat.

Paper tissues, toilet paper, yellow and red apples, Feta cheese in plastic containers, cream cheese, ice cream and Iran-made crackers, which disappeared from the store counters after Turkmenistan had closed its borders in February 2020 due to the outbreak of coronavirus, have re-appeared in the stores.

Iranian news outlets reported in late February that the authorities of Iran were holding negotiations on resuming the export of groceries via land boundaries.

On 10 April, 2020, during the videoconference bringing together members of the Turkic Council, which was devoted to the coronavirus pandemic, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov claimed it was important to maintain stable trade and economic relations as well as transport communication between the countries.

Let us recall that following the closure of the Turkmen-Iranian border the price hike for vegetables and fruit, the bulk of which was imported from Iran, was recorded in Turkmenistan.
