IRENA Invited to Test Alternative Energy Technologies in Turkmenistan

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Berdiniyaz Matiyev said during a meeting with the management of the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) in Ashgabat on Wednesday that Turkmenistan, in partnership with IRENA, is ready to become a place for developing and testing alternative energy technologies that can be used in Central Asian countries.

Turkmenistan also offered to hold international scientific conferences and other activities within the framework of cooperation with the agency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said in its press release.

The meeting discussed further strengthening of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UAE in the energy sector. In particular, the sides discussed prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UAE in the field of rational use of renewable energy and energy security.

During the visit, the representatives of Masdar also held talks with Rahymberdi Jepbarov, Chairman of the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan, and Charymyrat Purchekov, the Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Government in charge of the construction, industrial and energy issues.
