Due to the severe drought, water reserves in the reservoirs that feed Turkish Istanbul are only 61 days left, the situation is close to critical, reports RIA Novosti.
Representatives of the Istanbul Water Resources and Sewerage Authority estimated the filling of reservoirs at 33,37%, which is approximately 289 million cubic meters of water. Over the past two weeks, the city has consumed an average of 3-3,5 million cubic meters per day.
Istanbul is supplied with water from the Omerli, Darlyk and Terkos reservoirs. At present time, they contain 80% of all available water reserves.
The heat in Istanbul will continue for at least another ten days and the available water reserves will continue to evaporate. City officials are urging residents to conserve water.
Worse than the current situation with water in Istanbul was noted only in 2014, when in the same period the Istanbul reservoirs were only 17% full.
