ITA and Tokyo 2020 Sign Anti-Doping Agreement

The International Testing Agency (ITA) has signed a five-party memorandum of cooperation with the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee and three Japanese government agencies to work together to combat doping before and during the Olympic Games.

ITA, created by the International Olympic Committee in 2018, will for the first time be responsible for the implementation of the anti-doping program at the Olympic Games.The agency will monitor anti-doping operations with the support of the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee and the Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA).

On the part of the government, the five-party agreement was signed by the Sports Council of Japan, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and the Sports Technology Agency.

The cooperation is designed to ensure the cleanest possible Olympic Games. For this, all available measures must be taken to prevent illegal traffic of prohibited substances. All signatories have reaffirmed their commitment to zero tolerance for doping.
