Kazakhstan to Upgrade Border Highway With Turkmenistan

Kazakhstan is planning to upgrade a two-kilometer stretch of road in the Mangistau region, which borders Turkmenistan, Kazinform reported on Monday, citing the press service of the administration of the Karakiya district of the Mangistau region.

The project promises to build pedestrian paths with recreation areas. The national highway operator KazAutoZhol will carry out repair work on a 108-kilometer stretch from the Kenderli rest area to the Temir-Baba border post.

A new border post is under construction in the Karakiya district of the Mangistau region and is scheduled to be completed by July 2024. This project was ordered by the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan, and it costs 6 billion tenge.

Two wells will be dug at the border post, and a desalination plant with 100 cubic meters of water capacity daily, will be installed. Currently, the post has only one well, used for technical needs.

The border cargo and passenger customs post "Temir-baba" is located in Temir-baba of Karakiyan district in the south of Mangistau region, the distance to the regional center, the city of Aktau, is 335 km.
