Libya counts flood victims and declares three days of national mourning

Thousands of people became victims of the flood that hit northeast Libya on September 10 and are missing.

The cause of the disaster was Cyclone “Daniel”, which caused heavy rains and flooding of mountain rivers. The city of Derna suffered the most serious damage, where two dams collapsed, three bridges were completely destroyed, and water flooded entire neighborhoods, residential buildings and social facilities. In addition, hundreds of farms and plantations were destroyed.

As a result, more than two thousand people died and up to six thousand residents are considered missing. This was reported by “MIR 24” with reference to the Al Hadath TV channel.

Libyan authorities declared three days of national mourning. A two-day curfew was also announced in the eastern regions of the country, and a state of emergency was declared in the disaster-stricken region.
