Strong wind rose in Turkmenabat at 4 p.m. on 19 March, 2021, which resulted in the immediate power outage in the city and neighbouring villages, according to correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”.
Despite the fact that the wind speed was much lower than the hurricane which hit the region a year ago, roofs were blown off from many residential houses and non-residential property.
According to the website “Meteojournal”, gusts of wind reached 18 m/s and the meteorological station of Turkmenabat airport recorded the wind speed of 21 m/s, which is two times less than in the previous year.
It is not considered to be a hurricane.
Turkmenabat residents interviewed by correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” said the roofs had been blown off because of low quality recovery works carried out after last year’s hurricane. The Turkmen authorities and local media outlets ignored the disaster and the administration hastily repaired damaged buildings.
The village “10 years of Turkmenistan” and the Molotov village were most affected. Greenhouses were damaged and roofs of many houses were blown off.
The white yurt, which was installed for the festivities and a seminar the other day, was blown off together with carpets to the nearby collector drain.
The roof of the school №30 located in the agricultural association of Vatan in Chardjev etrap was blown off completely when students and teachers were in classrooms.
Following the last year’s experience students and teaching staff were very scared. Windows were broken with small stones and garbage brought with the wind.
Teachers accompanied the students to the corridor, where it is safer.One of the students had an epileptic seizure.Fortunately, first aid was rendered to him before the ambulance arrived.
The police arrived.After the wind calmed down, school administrators summoned parents to take schoolchildren home. Police officers requested that parents switch off their mobile phones.
Official and pro-governmental Turkmen media outlets have not reported on the natural disaster as last year.
