March 9: Barbie Doll’s Birthday and World DJ Day

On March 9, 1959, the first Barbie doll was presented at the American International Toy Fair. Businesswoman Ruth Handler, who invented Barbie and named her after her daughter Barbara, revolutionized the understanding of a doll should be like.

“Before Barbie, it was believed that when playing with a doll, a girl imitates the behavior of a mother towards children, so the main dolls were small naked and large well-dressed dolls.

And Barbie has become a friend, an older sister and at the same time the ideal that the girl wants to become in the future”, says market expert Nadezhda Zhurina (RF).

Ten years after its release, Barbie had become not only the best-selling, but also the most talked about toy on the market.

Barbie was actively participating in public life: applied for the Olympic Games, ran four times for the presidency of the United States and once for the post of Chancellor of Germany.

World DJ Day World DJ day is not only an official fest but also an important charity event, which has been held since 2002 on behalf of the International Club Industry. Every year, a week of charity events is held around the world to help children’s organizations, which culminate on March 9th.

The event initiators are the World DJ Fund Foundation and the Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy Organization, which uses music to treat children and adults. Traditionally, all money earned by DJs, clubs and radio stations on this day go to various international children’s funds and institutions.
