Musical Adventure: European Classical Pieces, Russian Fair and Turkmen Destan

Watan Cinema-Concert Hall has played host to an evening of classical music presented by teachers and students of the Maya Kulieva Turkmen National Music Conservatory whose program featured famous pieces by Russian, Western European and Turkmen composers.

Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Etude-tableaux Fair Scene’ was played on the piano by first-year student Merjen Amanova.Despite her young age, Merjen coped well with her nerves and perfectly conveyed the colorful musical language of the piece imbued with the mood and excitement of open-air celebrations.

The young pianist’s rendition was warmly received by the audience.Honored Artist of Turkmenistan Bibijemal Amanova performed Italian composer Luigi Arditi’s The Kiss’ accompanied by Stella Faramazova, a piano accompanist and the winner of international competitions.

Known as a waltz song, the piece delighted everyone with rich evocative vocals and the whole gamut of emotions.Works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Franz Liszt, Frederic Chopin, Georges Bizet, and Giuseppe Verdi took the audience on a fascinating journey into the world of exquisitely beautiful and richly diverse music.

A series of works by national composers opened with Nury Khalmamedov’s Elegiac Prelude and Fugue’.Merjen Amanova, who appeared on stage once again to perform the piece, communicated through expressive passages the shades of volume and philosophical ideas in one of the most important piano compositions by the celebrated composer.

Then, another pianist, Sona Nuryeva, who has captivated and thrilled the hearts of music lovers before with her brilliant performance of Frederic Chopin’s piano works, presented Piano Phantasy’ composed by her father Durdy Nuryev.

The Conservatory’s vocalists have performed the timeless opera Shasenem and Garib’ by Danatar Ovezov and Adrian Shaposhnikov four times!Rovshen Bayramov (tenor), Bibijemal Amanova (soprano), and Amangeldy Amanov (baritone), who sang arias and arioso from the opera, once again made the listeners immersed in the destan’s dramatic narrative.

A few minutes later, the husband and wife duo, Bibijemal Amanova and Amangeldy Amanov, sang the parts of Leonora and Count di Luna from Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Il Trovatore’ (The Troubadour’).

The singers’ impressive performance won thunderous applause and shouts of “Bravo” from the audience.The concert was an exhilarating experience that put the classical music enthusiasts in an upbeat mood, filling them with the exquisite poetics of music and the positive energy of spring.
