Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, seized during the special-forces raid, are destroyed

Nearby Bagabat village of Ak bugday etrap of Akhal velayat, it was held action on destruction of drugs, infringing cigarettes and psychotropic substances, seized during the special-forces raid, conducted jointly with law-enforcement and military bodies of Turkmenistan.

Organized by the Government, the State Coordination Commission on the struggle against drugs under the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, this event became a plain evidence of the state’s and society’s determination to confront one of the most dangerous challenges of modernity.

The event was attended by the leaders of force structure of Turkmenistan, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, accredited to our country and international organizations, including the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), OSCE, NGOs, mass media.

Among the attendees were also the honorable elders wise counselors in providing the harmonious development of society, as well as numerous students who came here to say their decided “no” to drugs.

On this occasion, students of the art school organized an exhibition of their works, the keynote of which became the rejection of threats and challenges of modernity and healthy lifestyle promotion.

Before the destructing action, narcotics, packed in cellophane bags of various sizes and packages, marked were demonstrated to its participants.Everyone could personally send a pack of dangerous contraband into a firepot of special furnaces constructions of considerable dimensions, built of refractory bricks.

However, by rule, the entire burning process from the beginning to the end was controlled by the employees of law-enforcement agencies and experts authorized.

Stressing the importance of this important action, initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, foreign participants stated that it became another testament to Turkmenistan’s commitment for the strengthening of peace, stability and sustainable development, a new concise investment in the general efforts to create a climate of security.

As noted, the international community welcomes the determination of Turkmenistan to put a reliable screen from illicit drug trafficking and its readiness for constructive international cooperation in this area.

It was noted also that the coordinated actions of law-enforcement bodies of Turkmenistan in close cooperation with representatives of local authorities, medical and educational institutions, public and religious organizations produce real results.

In particular, there is a significant reduction of drug-related crime rate.

Turkmenistan is one of those countries that takes active part in uncompromising fight against this global mankind problem, and can serve as a good example in this for many countries.

Our country successfully implements the National programme to combat drug trafficking and assist persons, being dependent on narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, one task of which is the restraint of drug smuggling, timely detection and treatment, and prevention of drug addiction.

This program became the starting point for a number of important events, backing the Law of Turkmenistan, recently adopted “On narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, precursors and counteraction to their illicit trafficking”.

State support of the programme for the active promotion of healthy lifestyle, sport development possesses the great value in the work, carried out in this direction.
