New head of WHO country office praises Turkmenistan for accomplishments in regulating tobacco consumption

On 11 June 2018 Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with the new head of the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan Dr Paulina Karwowska.

According to Karwowska, Turkmenistan has made significant accomplishments in regulating tobacco consumption and is undertaking efforts designed to create the environment free from tobacco smoke, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry said.

It was also highlighted that “solid foundations for undertaking measures to fight non-communicable diseases were created in Turkmenistan”.

Let us recall that on 16 April 2017Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov approved the anti-smoking campaign for the years 2017-2021, pursuant to which Turkmenistan is scheduled to become a smoke-free country by 2025.
