New Zealand will consider petition to change country's name

New Zealand's Maori Affairs Committee will consider a petition to change the country's official name to Maori Aotearoa, reports The New Zealand Herald.

According to her, the document was signed by more than 70 thousand residents of New Zealand. Aotearoa means “land of the long white cloud”. Earlier, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that the government does not plan to change the official name of the country in the near future.
