Nine Presidential candidates announced in Turkmenistan

The state information agency TDH reports that at an ad hoc convention held on 21 February the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs nominated Babamyrat Meredov, the CEO of a construction company, as a Presidential candidate.

In 2001 he graduated from Turkmenistan’s State Institute of Architecture and Construction as a systems engineer and until April 2012 taught IT in Teacher Training College named after Beki Seitakova in Dashoguz. Since October 2012 he has held the position of CEO of “Wepaly gurluşyk”.

According to TDH, his fellow party members say that Meredov is “a professional, a humble and kind-hearted person, family man and healthy living enthusiast”.

Later the same day the initiative group from Ashgabat nominated Khydyr Nunnayev, Provost for Research of Turkmenistan’s Institute of Physical Culture and Sport, a Ph.D. in Education, as a Presidential candidate.

He is a graduate of Ashgabat Medical College and Turkmenistan’s State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport.After he graduated from University in 2003 he worked as a physician in Tejen etrap hospital in Akhal velayat.

From 2005 to 2014 he worked as a lecturer at the chair of theory and methodology of sport in Turkmenistan’s State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport.In 2014 he was appointed Provost for Research.

Another Dashoguz-based initiative group has nominated Chairman of the Committee of Turkmenistan’s Democratic Party in the etrap named after Saparmurat Turkmenbashi Maksat Odeshov.

He graduated from the Turkmen Agricultural University as a mechanical engineer and worked as an operator in the telecommunications enterprise in the etrap named after Saparmurat.From 2002 to 2008 he held various positions in the etrap khyakimlik’s office; in December 200 he was elected secretary of the etrap committee of the Democratic Party, from September 2013 until present he has been holding the position of the Chairman of the Committee.

The candidate is also a member of the Mejlis of the fifth convocation.

Thus, there are a total of nine Presidential candidates: one candidate from each party, five velayats and Ashgabat.

On 21 February, 2022 Turkmenistan’s Central Election Commission registered Presidential candidates – Maksatmyrat Ovezgeldiev, the head of the public health authority of Babadayhan etrap, Akhal velayat; Kakageldi Saryev, the CEO of the research and production center “Renewable energy sources” (nominated on 19 February, 2022) and CEO of “Wepaly gurluşyk” Babamyrat Meredov, nominated on the same day.
