Online training on satellite monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions held for Turkmen specialists

Last week, within the framework of the project "EU for 'Green' Development in Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Climate Action for 20242029", online training sessions were organized via video conference.

This event, organized by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), took place at the Information and Analysis Center of the Natural Gas Research Institute of the "Turkmengaz" State Concern and was dedicated to advanced technologies for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions via artificial satellite.

The training workshop was attended by relevant specialists from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Energy, as well as the "Turkmengaz" and "Turkmennebit" State Concerns, and the Natural Gas Research Institute.

The online training was conducted by Lola Odunsi, Chief Expert of "GHGSat". During the event, the company's experts, Zak Kusnir and Benoit Linselle, also delivered special presentations, explaining to the participants the high-resolution foundations of satellite monitoring and the extensive industrial application of these technologies.

During the sessions, the processes of data processing from "GHGSat" satellites, the latest technological developments, the method of automatic data detection, and the technology of conducting spectral interpretation were analyzed. Furthermore, regional examples, new methods for processing analytical data, as well as "OGMP 2.0" and "EC" regulatory navigations were reviewed.

At the end of the training, a demonstration of the "GHGSat" software platform took place, and the planning of technical consultations was outlined. Specialists from the "Turkmengaz" State Concern and the Natural Gas Research Institute exchanged questions and answers on relevant scientific, practical, and technical fields, and expressed their gratitude to the organizers.
