The news outlet Turkmen News has reported about conditions in the quarantine camp in the city of Turkmenabat, where Turkmen repatriated nationals are placed for a two-week quarantine.
According to those who stayed in the quarantine facility, there were separate tents for men and women. Women with children and those who had undergone surgeries in the past two months were admitted to an in-patient medical facility in Turkmenabat for a quarantine.
Telephones and passports of inbound passengers were confiscated.
Nutrition was scarce and consisted primarily of rice and porridge and water had an unpleasant smell. However, one of those who spent two weeks in the camp reported that his relatives occasionally had brought him home-made food, clean bed linen and even alcohol.
“Needless to say, people complained about the quality of food and water, and the conditions in general. The local khyakim once paid a visit and assured us that the conditions in the camp would be improved. However, nothing has changed”, – an eye witness said.
Toilets and shower booths made of iron sheets and plywood are located outside. The toilets are so dirty that cleaning women refuse to clean them even for an additional fee. Turkmen News reports that people have to queue to have a shower.
Those who have completed a two week isolation get their documents and a mobile phone back after the law enforcement officers examine its contents. COVID-19 testing is required upon return home.
“Chronicles of Turkmenistan” has previously reported that citizens have to cover the cost of testing out of their own pocket. COVID-19 testing costs 50 manats if a person holds a medical insurance and 100 manats if health insurance is not available.
