Ph.D. in Economics G. Berdymukhammedov authors a book devoted to cooperation with the UN

The state information agency TDH reports that the book authored by an academician of Turkmenistan’s Academy of Sciences, Ph.D.

in Economics, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov “Reaching the Sustainable Development Goals in Turkmenistan (SDGs)” has been presented in Turkmenistan.

The book is dedicated to the forward-looking domestic and foreign policy pursued by the head of the state, the accomplishments reached as a result of important international initiatives carried out by President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov as well as efforts undertaken by Turkmenistan to achieve the UN SDGs.

“The book serves as yet another proof that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to multi-faceted cooperation with the UN”, — the news outlet runs.

It should be emphasized that Turkmenistan’s national report on human rights record was reviewed in the UN.The authorities of Turkmenistan turned down 19 out of 191 recommendations by the UN Human Rights Working group.

For instance, the refusal of the Turkmen authorities to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture caused criticism of the session participants.

Moreover, pursuant to the report by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Turkmenistan is listed among 38 countries which carried out reprisals of residents for cooperating with international organizations, including the UN, on human rights.

President Berdymukhammedov is scheduled to pay a visit to New York from 29 September to 2 October to attend the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.
