Powerful earthquake hits Indonesia

An earthquake of magnitude 6,5 was registered in eastern Indonesia. In accordance with the country's Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics, the seismic event occurred at 9:36 a.m. local time.

The epicenter of the disaster was located at 85 km southwest of the Barat Daya district of Maluku province.

The seat of the tremors lay at a depth of 104 km. The tremors were also felt in the nearby province of East Nusa Tenggara and the neighboring country of Timor-Leste. The earthquake caused panic among local residents, but there were no reports of damage to the victims.
