On 26 June President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov met with the newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Turkmenistan Matthew S. Klimow, who handed in credential letters to the head of the state.
The state information agency TDH reports that “the diplomat relayed greetings from U.S. President Donald Trump, who “confirmed interest in further development of intergovernmental relations”.
The President and the diplomat exchanged ideas about the state and prospects of intergovernmental cooperation.
Matthew S. Klimow replaced his predecessor Allan Phillip Mustard.
Before the appointment Mr. served as Senior Advisor in the Office of the Under Secretary for Management at the Department of State.
Previously, Mr.Klimow served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Brussels, Belgium, and as a United States Army officer from 1974 to 2003, retiring with the rank of colonel.
