Earlier today, on 1 September the Department of Chemistry of Turkmen State University was scheduled to be festively opened.
A few days ago the cleaning campaign was carried out in adjacent areas. The public utilities employees had been cleaning the streets and catching stray animals.
President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov was expected to attend the ceremony. However, correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that the head of the state did not attend the event.
Starting from 5 a.m. students with flags lined up along Nurmukhammed Andalib and Gerogly (formerly, T. Shevchenko) streets. By 6 a.m. public sector employees appeared. The President failed to appear at the event and at 11 a.m. the crowd scene was eventually dispersed.
Update as of 4 September, 2017. After an additional investigation we came to the conclusion that the President did attend the opening ceremony. For more details click the link.
