President of Iran to visit Turkmenistan

“Interfax” with reference to Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry reports that Turkmenistan is getting ready for the official visit of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani.

The visit was on the agenda of the meeting bringing together the Iranian delegation headed by Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadar and representatives of Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry in Ashgabat.

The sides are reported to have discussed opportunities for expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation and fostering energy partnership.

Mohammad Shariatmadar previously met with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov.

Let us recall that the meeting was held amid the ongoing gas dispute between Ashgabat and Tehran.

On 30 January Iran’s Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh announced that Iran was filing the second complaint at the International Court of Arbitration against Turkmenistan.

“Turkmenistan claims Iran owes them $1.5 billion, but we believe the number is not right and the amount should be decreased. Our other complaint is about the quality of the gas imported from Turkmenistan”, — the Minister said.
