A solemn ceremony of conferring the title of Hero of Turkmenistan on President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was held today at the session of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat on Sunday, the country's official media reports.
Speaker of the National Parliament of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova read out the Decree of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan "On awarding the title of Hero of Turkmenistan to President Berdimuhamedov Serdar Gurbangulyevich".
According to the document, the Head of State was awarded the title of Hero of Turkmenistan for his great personal contribution to strengthening the foundations of Turkmenistan's national independence and the principles of neutrality, for his outstanding services to the state and society in the dynamic development of a democratic, legal and secular state by putting forward new initiatives, improving political and socio-economic reforms in the new period of the country's development, democratisation, implementation of positive transformations, ensuring a dramatic change in the image of the country in a new era, for consistent and purposeful activities carried out to enhance the glory and dignity of the country, as well as in connection with the celebration of the 32nd anniversary of the Independence of Turkmenistan
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov was also awarded the one of the highest honour, the Altyn Aý Gold Medal.
