President of Kyrgyzstan Sooranbay Jeenebekov arrived in Ashgabat on 23 August with an official visit.
The state information agency TDH report that presidents of Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan held negotiations in “Oguzkhan” palace first face-to-face and then in an extended format.
According to the media outlet, “the situation in Afghanistan” was one of the topics for discussion.The sides did not elaborate on what issues in Afghanistan raised concerns.
“It is obvious nowadays that there is no military solution to the Afghan problem and the nation-wide dialogue involving all responsible officials with the UN taking the lead is needed”, TDH quotes President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov.
Apart from Afghanistan, the sides also discussed water and energy issues.
Based on the results of the negotiations, the following documents were signed:
The double taxation prevention and income tax evasion agreement;
The agreement on trade an economic cooperation and humanitarian partnership;
The Memorandum of Understanding on key principles of transportation cooperation;
The cooperation agreement on prevention and liquidation of emergency situations;
The cooperation agreement between Unions of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the two nations;
The cooperation agreement between Turkmenistan’s State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography and Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism.
After the official part of the visit and the reception were completed, the President of Kyrgyzstan visited the Mosque of Spirituality in Turkmenbashi located in the village of Kipchak, the Olympic village and the textile factory.
In the evening Sooranbay Jeenebekov headed to Balkan velayat, where the Summit of the heads of the states of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) was held on 24 August.
