Production of Vegetables, Fruits in Turkmenistan Up in Q1 2021

Turkmen agricultural producers in the first quarter of 2021 significantly increased their crop production compared to the same period last year, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET) reported on its website on Wednesday citing the data from the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan.

During the period, the production of vegetables in the country increased by 24.8%. The Turkmen farmers increased their production of fruits and berries by 3.2% compared to the same period of 2020, according to the report.

In January-March 2021, the number of registered new economic entities increased by 44.3% compared to the same period in 2020. Most of the new enterprises are specialized in agriculture, their number increased by 88% over the period. And the number of manufacturing enterprises during this period increased by more than 53%.

During a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in April 2021, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed the Vice-Premier Chary Gylyjov and the heads of the country’s trade complex to take additional support measures to create sufficient supplies of stocks of certain products, especially food.
