Putin and Mishustin to Visit Ashgabat for CIS Summits

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin are scheduled to visit Ashgabat in 2026 to participate in events under the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin said Wednesday in an article published in the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan.

Mishustin’s visit is expected on May 22, while Putin will take part on October 9. The upcoming high-level contacts are seen as a continuation of active political dialogue between the two countries.

Russia and Turkmenistan this year mark the 34th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The cooperation reflects a deep strategic partnership based on mutual respect, trust, and constructive engagement, Volynkin noted.

According to the ambassador, both sides show alignment on key global and regional issues, expanding cooperation at both bilateral and international levels.

The events will take place in Turkmenistan as part of the country’s CIS chairmanship. Turkmenistan’s 2026 chairmanship concept and implementation plan have been published on the official website of the CIS Executive Committee.
