Office of the International Organization for Migration in Turkmenistan organized a seminar on the Advance Passenger Information System (API), which was held via video communication on January 29, 2021.
It was attended by representatives of the State Customs, Migration and Border Service, the Turkmenhowayollary Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.The aim of the seminar was to discuss legal issues related to the implementation of the advance passenger information system (API) and familiarize with international experience in this area.
The event was hosted by an international expert invited by the Representative Office of the International Organization for Migration in Turkmenistan.The main emphasis was placed on the legal aspects of the introduction of the advance passenger information system (API).
During the seminar, the parties exchanged views on the advance passenger information system and its capabilities, the experience of countries using this system, its implementation and information exchange in Turkmenistan.
Advance Passenger Information System (API) collects biographical and flight details of a passenger during the check-in process.This information is transmitted electronically by the border control body at the destination after the departure of the flight.
These authorities can then compare detailed passenger information with their databases, identifying those passengers who require more thorough screening upon arrival.
