Residential houses near the old airport demolished in Ashgabat

Several apartment blocks had been renovated in the run-up to the 2017 Asian Games. In particular, they had been covered with сladding panels. Now these residential buildings are being knocked down but not all inhabitants have moved out of their apartments.

As a rule, the authorities of Ashgabat do not provide alternative accommodation to the inhabitants of the demolished apartment blocks and suggest that they latter wait for a while.

For examples, the inhabitants of the apartment blocks on Nogina street (located near the University), which were demolished two years ago, have been provided with apartments in the residential district Parakhat-7 only recently.

However, there is no electricity or gas supply in new apartments, the lifts are not working and a lot of construction-related things have not been finished.

Residents who are fed up with staying in other people’s apartments agree to move into the apartments which are unfit for living. However, there are those who demand that the construction works be first fully completed in according with the project design and only after that they are ready to move in.
