Residents of Dashoguz velayat demand that bus fare on intercity routes be decreased

In the morning of 3 November about forty people gathered in front of the khyakimlik’s office in Gerogly (formerly, the village of Takhta) located in Dashoguz velayat. They complained to the official (deputy khyakim of the etrap overseeing social issues) about soaring bus fares on intercity routes.

Due to a high unemployment rate many inhabitants of the village and neighbouring rural communities are urged to go to Dashoguz, the administrative centre of Turkmenistan’s northern province, in search of jobs on a daily basis.

Since early November the bus fare for the route Gerogly-dashoguz has increased from 1,10 to 1,70 manats (а 54% growth).

The local administration decided to accommodate the requests of locals and reinstated the previous price for bus tickets.

Since 1 November the bus fare has risen throughout the entire region by 0,5-1 manat on average. For instance, the bus fare on the route Gurbansoltan-edje (formely, Ilyaly) to Dashoguz now costs 2 manats and 3 manats from Akdepe (formerly, Leninsk) to Dashoguz.

We are receiving reports that the ticket price has increased following the instruction from high-ranking authorities. For the time being each bus driver has to hand in 306 manats per shift. Previously the plan was 160 manats per shift.

One trip on the Dashoguz intracity line costs 50 tenge.
