Rio de Janeiro declared as World Book Capital 2025

In 2025, Rio de Janeiro will become the World Book Capital, writes “Russkaya Gazeta”.

The World Book Capital is selected annually by a committee of members of UNESCO and the World Book Capital Advisory Committee. This year it is the city of Accra, the capital of the African state of Ghana, next year it will move to Strasbourg in France.

“Books are a vital means of accessing, transmitting, promoting education, science, culture and information throughout the world.Thanks to books, we gain information, spend time with pleasure, and can better understand our world.

This is why every year UNESCO designates a World Book Capital.Following Accra in 2023 and Strasbourg in 2024, I am pleased to announce the designation of Rio de Janeiro as World Book Capital 2025”, - announced UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay.

Rio de Janeiro became the first Portuguese-speaking city to become the World Book Capital.
