Rising Sports Talents

A whole host of young cycling talents are being nurtured in Dashoguz Velayat. Most of them are students of Children’s Sports School No. 4 in the city of Dashoguz.

For example, Arazmukhamed Nurmedov, who is now a fourth-year student at the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Education and Sports, is a two-time holder of the Turkmenistan Road and Track Cycling Cup; Agajan Mukhammedov, a student at Dashoguz School No. 10 won several national road and track cycling championships in his age group; Sarykhan Nurmedov, an eleventh-year student at School No. 28, earned a bronze medal at the national junior road cycling championship.

Today, the athletes are considered by specialists as top candidates for the Turkmenistan national cycling team.Twenty-year-old Ayjemal Bayramova, one of the country’s most promising young cyclists, and coach at Children’s Sport School Emir Jumaev are among those to compete for a place in the national team.

Trained by experienced coach Mukhammed Nurmedov, the cyclists are now working to improve their overall fitness and to develop a broader base of conditioning at the School’s well-equipped gym.

When the weather is good, they hold sprint and tempo races in the city’s scenic parts.Their training schedule also includes trips to Ashgabat, where they train at the Olympic Complex’s splendid Indoor Velodrome that will host the Track Cycling World Championship this year.

The impressive number of talented athletes can be explained by the fact that physical education and sports, including cycling, have risen to higher levels in Dashoguz Velayat. The creation of multipurpose sports infrastructure in the country’s northern region has significantly contributed to this.

It boasts 15 stadiums and 29 children’s and youth sports schools that meet modern standards. Most of them have been built in recent years as part of different state programs.

Tens of thousands of children and young people are coached there by qualified instructors and trainers.Noteworthily, of the 36 sports taught at these institutions, 21 are Olympic sports.
