Russia is not ready to host foreign students yet

Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov said that currently Russian universities are not ready to host foreign students due to the coronavirus pandemic, TASS reports.

According to the Minister, foreign students, including those from the Commonwealth of Independent States countries, would like to come, but due to limited transport links and for a number of other reasons, they could not.

"You can see the situation in our cities and major universities. Now we are not ready to accept foreign students. The situation is radically different from what we had with you in early September," the Minister Valery Falkov said at a meeting of the Council of the Russian Union of rectors.

He also said that a third of students from other countries remain outside of Russia.

Foreign students cannot get to study now due to epidemiological restrictions. Russian universities offer students distance learning. A large number of foreign students stayed in Russia for the summer, and they continue their studies, because they did not leave the country and lived on the campuses of Russian universities.
