Russia’s Output of Chemical Products Up 6.7% in Q1 2021

Russia’s output of chemical products in the first quarter of 2021 increased by 6.7% compared to the same period of last year. In march, Russia’s chemical production rose by 5.4% year on year, Independent Commodity Intelligence Services (ICIS) reported last Friday with reference to the data from Russia’s Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

Mineral fertilizers accounted for the greatest increase in the January-March output, according to the Rosstat data.

The Russian plants produced 2.327 million tons of mineral fertilizers in March 2021 versus 2.098 million tons a month earlier. Overall, around 6.743 million tons of fertilizers were produced in Russia in January-March 2021, a 12% increase year on year.

March production of caustic soda was 118 thousand tons versus 98.4 thousand tons a month earlier. Overall output of caustic soda totaled 329 thousand tons in the first three months of 2021, down by 0.7% year on year.

Production of benzene grew up to 121 thousand tons in March, compared to 113 thousand tons a month earlier. Overall output of this product reached 362 thousand tons in the first quarter of 2021, down by 8.2% year on year.

Russia’s production of polymers in primary form, including polypropylene (PP) and Polyethylene (PE), amounted to 2.725 million tons in the first quarter of 2021, an 8.5% increase compared to same period last year. Last month’s production of polymers in primary form was 958 thousand tons versus 861 thousand tons in February.

A total of 447.0 thousand tons of synthetic rubbers were produced in Russia in the first quarter of 2021, which is 10.2% more compared to the same period of last year.
