Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that public sector employees of Ashgabat have not been paid their October salaries yet. The executives and accounting departments explain the delay this by the fact relevant documents had not been received from the Ministry of Finance and Economy.
In the meantime, privately-owned and state-run retail outlets, including major supermarkets, bank cards are no longer being accepted under various pretexts. Cashiers ask customers to pay for their purchases in cash.
As a result, even those public sector employees, who have enough savings on their accounts, are unable to pay for their groceries.
Ration packs at state prices which are delivered to homes of Ashgabat residents also need to be paid in cash because delivery persons have no payment terminals.
Salaries in the capital are usually paid at the end of the month or at the beginning of the following month.
