“Sberbank” tests ATMs that do not require a bank card

In Russia, ATMs are being tested without a push-button number pad and a bank card slot, reports the “Vedomosti” website with reference to information from representatives of “Sberbank”.

The vending machine without a bank card reader will be controlled directly from an iOS or Android smartphone. With its help, a QR code is scanned from an ATM, through which a transition to the “Sberbank-online” banking application takes place. The client will be offered the opportunity to withdraw or deposit cash into the account.

The new ATM has a screen for reading a QR code and a slot for issuing/receiving cash. According to one of the representatives of “Sberbank”, such an ATM is “a design that stores money and contains a QR code, and the interface and client path are displayed on the client’s smartphone”.

This year, there are no plans to introduce such ATMs in large quantities. It is also not known how many “cardless” ATMs have been installed on an experimental basis.
