Scientist and civil activist Yalym Begov dies in Turkmenistan

On 6 October, 2018 the Turkmen civil rights activists Yalym Begov, aged 83, died. Radio “Azatlyk” reports that on Tuesday he was buried in his home town of Mary.

“Starting from 1991, Yalum aga had been actively promoting the ideas of democracy. He was an active member of the democratic movement, set up in the first day of Turkmenistan’s independence.

“He did a lot to disseminate information about the arbitrariness of the authorities on the internal arena”, — one of the late activist’s associate recalls in a conversation with Azatlyk.
