Serdar Berdymukhammedov instructs that media outlets inform residents of the lifting of the mask mandate

The state information agency TDH reports that President Serdar Berdymukhammedov has instructed government officials that residents be informed through media outlets newspapers and television when and where masks need to be worn and in what cases masks are no longer required.

At the Cabinet session held on 11 June Deputy Prime Minister overseeing science, education, healthcare and sport Sapardurdy Toilyev was charged with this task.

It should be pointed out that at the Cabinet session on 6 May it was announced that effective 1 June the mask mandate outdoors will be lifted. Residents are required to wear masks only in public transport and closed premises.

However, as “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” reported Turkmen residents were still wearing masks.Some are not aware of the easing of the mask mandate while others still fear that the police will fine them.

Apart from one televised broadcast of the Cabinet session, in the course of which a decision was made to ease COVID-19 prevention measures, the authorities did not inform officially residents of the decision.
