Serdar Berdymukhammedov pardons 514 Turkmen nationals in honour of Laylat al-Qad

The state information agency TDH reports that on 22 April President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymukhammedov signed a decree to pardon 514 individuals in honour of Gadyr gijesi (Laylat al-Qad, or the Night of Decree).

The Minister of Defense, Chairperson of the commission for citizenship and pardon proposals Begench Gundogdyev, as well we executives of the law enforcement officers, were instructed to transport those pardoned home “as soon as possible” and heads of velayats were charged with providing jobs to them.

Laylat al-Qad, or the Night of Decree takes a special place in the month of Ramadan which is held from 2 April to 2 May this year.

Gadyr gijesi falls on the night of 28 April.In Islamic belief, it is the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
