Soltan Achilova extends greetings to the Laureate of the 2021 Martin Ennals Award and thanks readers of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” for support

The Award Ceremony and the announcement of the Laureate for the 2021 Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders was held on 11 February, 2021 in Geneva.

Our colleague Soltan Achilova was among the three Finalists selected by the Jury.

The renowned Chinese lawyer Yu Wensheng was named the Laureate of the 2021 Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders.He was persecuted by the Chinese authorities and detained in 2018 for his activism and human rights engagement.

After it transpired that Yu Wensheng was selected as one of the finalists for the international human rights award, he was transferred to a penitentiary facility with milder penal climate.

A Saudi woman human rights activist Loujain AlHathloul, another Finalist of the Award, was released from prison after it was announced that she had been selected as the Finalist.

However, she will be placed on a 5-year travel ban and 3 years of probation.She had been previously sentenced to 2 years and 10 months in prison.

Soltan Achilova and Loujain AlHathloul will also get prizes from the Martin Ennals Foundation.

Soltan-daiza expressed willingness to personally thank our readers for their support.
