Students from 25 countries allowed into Russia to resume their studies in the country

Foreign students from epidemiologically safe countries allowed into Russia. According to Interfax, the corresponding resolution was signed by the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin.

The Resolution reads, foreign students, graduate students, interns and students of preparatory faculties are allowed to resume their studies in Russia. The procedure for the entry of foreign students has been developed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

According to the Resolution, as of date, students who are permitted to enter Russia for study purposes must fly in from one of these countries: Abkhazia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Vietnam, Greece, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Maldives, United Arab Emirates, Seychelles, Serbia, Singapore, Tanzania, Turkey, Finland, Switzerland, Ethiopia, South Korea, South Ossetia, and Japan.

The document also states that the list of countries open for foreign students to enter Russia and regularly updated by Rospotrebnadzor will be communicated by universities to students through personal accounts on university websites, as well as through official pages on social networks and messengers.

The returning students will need to notify their universities by email 10 days ahead of arrival into the Russian Federation, the document reads. After sending the notification letter, students will receive information on entry by e-mail.

To be allowed into the country to study, foreign students must present a medical document written in Russian or English that confirms that they have received a negative COVID-19 PCR-test no more than three days prior to departing for Russia.

After arrival, students are required to isolate at home and take another COVID test within 72 hours. They will study online and can leave isolation at the point when they receive a second negative test result.

Traditionally, the most important source countries for Russia’s foreign student enrolment are Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, China, Tajikistan, Ukraine, India, Belarus, Azerbaijan, and Kyrgyzstan. The 2019/20 enrolment figure came close to around 300,000 international students.
