Taliban militants attack TAPI gas pipeline

At least five deminers have been killed by unknown gunmen in southern Kandahar province on Monday morning, the website TOLO news reports.

The deminers were clearing the TAPI gas pipeline area of IEDs.

Provincial police chief Abdul Raziq said that attackers were the Taliban insurgents but representatives of the Taliban movement have not yet commented nor claimed responsibility.

A week ago the Taliban militants attacked Farah province where the TAPI gas pipeline will pass through.

Following the attack the head of the Natural Resources Monitoring Network said that the authorities of Afghanistan are unable to ensure the security of the gas pipeline.
