TDH: students evacuated from Ukraine because of “complicated circumstances”

The state information agency TDH reports that on 10 March a large group of students from Turkmenistan, who were doing a course of study in Ukrainian universities, arrived in the city of Turkmenabat.

The repatriation of students from Ukraine was explained by “complicated circumstances in Ukraine”, according to the news outlet.

“Turkmen students who returned home expressed sincere gratitude to the leader of the nation for “treating them with fatherly care”, – TDH reports.

According to the news outlet Turkmenistan.ru, there were 282 Turkmen nationals on board, who managed to get from Ukraine to Romania and then, as a result of coordinated effort of the diplomatic missions of the two countries, were repatriated to Turkmenistan.

“Chronicles of Turkmenistan” has previously reported that Turkmen nationals, who had been left without any assistance when the hostilities broke out in Ukraine, tried to find their own means of evacuation. Some of them left for Poland, others head to Romania and then via Bulgaria go to Turkey.

According to the anonymous questionnaire in Telegram channel of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” where 105 respondents took part, the Embassy rendered support to 14 Turkmen nationals in Ukraine (13%); 22 individuals (21%) managed to contact the Embassy of Turkmenistan but the Embassy officials could not help them; 38 respondents (36%) failed to reach the Embassy and 31 people (30%) did not even try to contact diplomats.

On 1 March, 2022 several Turkmen nationals arrived in Istanbul from Ukraine. It was also reported that one Turkmen national was killed in Kharkiv, Ukraine and another was injured.

In early March 10 Turkmen nationals, including a woman with a 9 month child, crossed the Ukrainian-Romanian border and tried to seek assistance in the Refugee Centre in the city of Focșani.

A 25 year old citizen of Turkmenistan, who had sustained a leg and arm injuries, was admitted to hospital in the Romania city of Sighetu Marmației.

It was also reported that the mother of a student Serdar Annaorazov, who went missing in Ukraine, received a call from a person who introduced himself as an official from the Embassy of Turkmenistan who informed the woman that her son had been killed.The post TDH: students evacuated from Ukraine because of “complicated circumstances” first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
