The Afghan diplomat is convinced that Turkmenistan is interested in hosting Taliban office

On 24 October Afghanistan’s television channel 1TV reported that the Ambassador of Afghanistan in Qatar Faizullah Kakar told “The Voice of America” that Turkmenistan and Indonesia have expressed interest in hosting the Taliban office in their countries.

“I think that countries like Turkmenistan and Indonesia want to cooperate in the area of peace and the office will possibly relocate there,” he said.

It should be mentioned that the Turkmen side has not yet commented on the proposal put forward by the Afghan diplomat.

Taliban’s representation office in Qatar was opened in 2013 under the support of the USA.It was envisaged that it might facilitate negotiations between the movement and the authorities of Afghanistan.

However, the representation office did not bring about any considerable results. However, in 2014, for instance, it assisted in releasing the US military officer, who had been captured by Talibans, according to the news agency “Fergana”.

At the same time, the Qatar office ensured certain legitimacy of the Taliban representatives on the international arena. According to unofficial data, thanks to it they were given the opportunity to hold secret talks with some countries.

It has recently become known that the authorities of Afghanistan intend to close down a representation office after acknowledging its inefficiency. The question was raised with Qatar and the USA.
