Due to the eruption of the Popocatepetl volcano, the airport of the Mexican capital had to be temporarily closed for cleaning, reports the “MIR 24” portal.

After the eruption, the surrounding area was covered with volcanic ash. In the early morning of May 20, the air harbor of Mexico was forced to suspend work to clear the ashes from the runways and taxiways, said the airport authorities.

The active volcano Popocatepetl with a height of 5426 meters is located just 60 kilometers from Mexico.
